Abstract:

With autotuning the time that engineers lay on tuning regulators can be decreased significantly. Ideally, the one who performs the tuning of regulators should just have to push a button and then receive the appropriate parameters for the regulator. ABB designs HVDC Light systems and autotuning of the PID regulators used in the control system for HVDC Light has not so far been used.

The main goal of this Master thesis work was to find a method that can be used for autotuning of PID controllers in a HVDC Light system. Several methods have been investigated and tested on a simplified model of a HVDC Light system. System Identification has been used to create a model of the system and with this model the tuning methods considered were tested.
